When your Freedom is at stake, choosing the right criminal defense attorney is Vital.

Don't think you need an attorney?

On television, criminal cases are neatly solved by the end of the episode. The police are portrayed as haveing sophisticated technology and clever detectives. You may even believe that if you were arrested, you must be guilty. The reality is often different.

If you have been arrested and charged with drunk driving in Michigan, you may think that there is little you can do dispute the charges.  The police have impressive uniforms, vehicles and CSI-like devices that can "discover" the truth. The important thing to remember is that all of this is operated by fallible humans who often make mistakes.

This is because the police and prosecutors are measured by the number of arrests and convictions they obtain. They are not your friends, and even if they claim they will "go easy" on you if you plead guilty, stop and remember, their job is to convict you.

Being charged with a criminal offense, like a DUI/OWI, can be overwhelming and confusing. This is why you need your own attorney. Not only do they understand all of the proceedings, from the stated charges to the potential punishment, but they also know how to examine the police actions.

They can go over how the arrest took place, how the field sobriety tests were administered, if the breath-testing device was used properly and whether it had been correctly maintained and calibrated.

When enforcing the law, the police are obligated to follow the law. If they made mistakes in this process, your attorney may be able to have the charges you are facing reduced or potentially dismissed.
