Redemption and return to office after drunk driving arrest

All of us have our good moments and our bad. There is no doubt that we each must work hard not to repeat our mistakes and not to allow our mistakes to define us.

That is just what Kevin Green has done. Eight years ago, the former state representative was arrested for drunken driving. Today the Wyoming man is headed back to office, this time as Algoma Township supervisor.

Green said he is "thrilled" to be returning to elected office. "I'm really appreciative (voters0 accepted me, too. What a wonderful feeling," he told a new outlet.

He said he did not try to hide his drunken driving arrest, opting instead to tackle it head on.

"People can have a second chance at life and move on from their mistakes," Green said, "and I think people can really relate to that."

The former Wyoming City Council member was in the Michigan House when busted in 2008 for driving while intoxicated.

Regardless of partisan belief, Green's triumph is more compelling evidence that an OWI/DUI arrest is not the end. Yes, Michigan's penalties for drunk driving are stiff, but with the help of a skilled criminal defense attorney, drivers who have made mistakes can often avoid the harshest sanctions, make amends and resume their lives.
